Overview

A procedure for advocating for inclusion in important missions when you have been overlooked, using the "point in a sheath" metaphor.

Steps

1. Identify the opportunity - Learn of a mission requiring personnel
2. Assess the gap - Determine if there is an unfilled position
3. Approach the decision-maker directly - Request inclusion to fill the gap
4. Anticipate rejection based on track record - Prepare for skepticism about your abilities
5. Reframe the narrative - Argue that lack of opportunity, not lack of ability, explains obscurity
6. Use the sheath metaphor - Explain that talent only becomes visible when given opportunity (like a point in a sheath)
7. Request a chance to prove yourself - Ask to be placed where your abilities can emerge
