Night Attack On Encamped Enemy

Overview

Tactical procedure for conducting a surprise night assault against an enemy encampment, based on Wei Qing's attack on the Xiongnu Right Wise King.

Preconditions

• Enemy believes they are beyond reach of your forces
• Enemy has become complacent (e.g., drunk)
• Your forces can approach undetected

Steps

1. Approach Undetected

   • Force march to reach enemy position
   • Arrive at night when enemy least expects

2. Encircle the Camp

   • Surround the enemy position under cover of darkness
   • Cut off escape routes

3. Launch Surprise Attack

   • Attack while enemy is unprepared
   • Enemy leadership will panic and attempt to flee

4. Pursue Fleeing Leadership
