Core Principle

"闾巷之人，欲砥行立名者，非附青云之士，恶能施于后世哉？" (Ordinary people who wish to establish their names must attach themselves to eminent persons)

Steps

1. Cultivate Personal Virtue

   • Practice moral conduct (砥行)
   • Develop noteworthy character and achievements

2. Seek Association with Eminent Figures

   • Connect with recognized sages, scholars, or leaders
   • Position oneself in relation to their legacy (附骥尾 - attaching to the horse's tail)

3. Document the Connection

   • Ensure the association is recorded in texts or traditions
   • Example: Bo Yi and Shu Qi became famous through Confucius's mention
