Instructions
1. Browse the 10 Themes and Choose One Review the themes below. Consider your industry, audience, and the message you want to convey:
Formal/Trustworthy: Ocean Depths, Arctic Frost, Modern Minimalist
Warm/Creative: Sunset Boulevard, Golden Hour, Desert Rose, Botanical Garden
Technical/Innovative: Tech Innovation, Midnight Galaxy
Natural/Balanced: Forest Canopy, Botanical Garden
Which theme resonates? Read the description and visual identity to pick.
2. Understand Your Theme's DNA
Primary Color (hex code): Use for main CTAs, headers, brand emphasis
Secondary Color (hex code): Use for supporting elements, section dividers
Accent Color (hex code): Use sparingly for alerts, highlights, data emphasis
Neutral Light (hex code): Background, light text areas
Neutral Dark (hex code): Body text, strong contrast
Supporting Palette (2-3 hex codes): Additional colors for data, charts, variety
Heading Font: Font name, family (serif/sans), best weights
Body Font: Font name, family, standard weights
Visual Identity: Design style, imagery approach, overall vibe
3. Prep Your Artifact
Presentation/Deck: Slides, title slide layout, section breaks
Document/Report: Multi-page layout, headers, footers, sections
Dashboard: Cards, data visualizations, metric displays
Single-Page: Proposal, flyer, or one-pager
Gather your content (text, data, images) before styling. You'll apply the theme as you go.
4. Apply Colors Consistently Start with structure, then layer in colors:
Background: Use Neutral Light as your base
Headers (H1, H2, H3): Primary Color for H1/H2, Secondary Color for H3
Body Text: Neutral Dark
CTAs/Buttons: Primary Color background with Neutral Light text
Dividers/Accents: Secondary Color (0.5-1px rules between sections)
Data/Charts: Use Supporting Palette colors; assign consistent colors to categories
Callout Boxes: Accent Color border or light Accent Color background with dark text
Avoid color chaos: stick to the 5-7 colors in your theme. Don't introduce new colors.
5. Apply Typography
H1 (Title/Main headline): Heading Font, Bold weight, Primary Color, [Size: 36-48pt for decks, 28-36pt for docs]
H2 (Section header): Heading Font, SemiBold, Primary Color, [Size: 24-32pt for decks, 18-24pt for docs]
H3 (Sub-header): Heading Font, Medium, Secondary Color or Neutral Dark, [Size: 18-24pt for decks, 14-18pt for docs]
Body Text: Body Font, Regular, Neutral Dark, [Size: 12-14pt for docs, 18-20pt for slides, readable at distance]
Labels/Captions: Body Font, Regular, Secondary Color or light Neutral, [Size: 10-12pt]
Test readability: print or view at actual size. Can you read the text comfortably?
6. Use Theme Imagery and Style Apply the theme's visual language:
Photography: Choose images that match the theme's style (e.g., Ocean Depths = seascapes, water imagery; Tech Innovation = modern, minimalist tech imagery)
Illustrations: If using icons or illustrations, keep style consistent (e.g., line art, filled shapes, minimalist)
Filters/Tone: If theme specifies a mood (e.g., Golden Hour = warm, sunset tones), apply consistent filters or adjust image saturation/temperature
Patterns: Some themes use subtle background patterns or textures; apply sparingly to avoid clutter
7. Lock Down Spacing and Layout Apply consistent spacing:
Margins: 1 inch (docs/reports), 0.5 inch (slides), or [theme-specific]
Section spacing: 32-48px (slides), 24-36px (docs)
Element spacing: 12-16px between bullets, list items, cards
Card/box padding: 16-20px inside boxes or callouts
Grid: Use an 8px or 12px base grid so all spacing is a multiple
Aim for plenty of white space; don't cram content.
8. Review and Iterate Make adjustments. If something feels off, it likely is.
9. Export and Share
Save in your final format (PDF, .pptx, Google Slides, .docx, etc.)
Share with stakeholders
If this becomes a recurring template, save a blank version as a template for future use
Tag it with the theme name (e.g., "Ocean Depths Presentation Template")
10. Now What? After applying a theme to your artifact:
For presentations: Share the file, use in a pitch or all-hands, or save as a reusable template
For documents/reports: Publish to your wiki, email to stakeholders, or add to your document library
For dashboards: Deploy to your monitoring/analytics tool, share the Figma or design file, or embed in reports
For templates: Share with your team so others can create consistent work using the same theme
